A Tribute to Time-honored Tradition, Family and
COUNTRY HERITAGE
Peterson’s Second Annual ‘Heritage Day’
Saturday, Sept. 4

Make your destination Peterson’s Country Mill for Heritage Day on Saturday, September 4th. Relive the “good old days” when Minnesota was the leading producer of flour, and potatoes were king. Enjoy Peterson’s large pictorial display and a slide show of North Branch and the surrounding area. See classic horse-drawn farm equipment including a manure spreader, sulky plow, mower and harrow. In the 1890s, Ferdinand Splittstoser, a German immigrant, opened a plant that manufactured potato planters, diggers and cutters. Through the courtesy of the Chisago County Historical Society, an original Splittstoser potato slicer will be on display. Again this year, Peterson’s is featuring a free petting zoo. “Down on the Farm” will bring donkeys, pigs, chickens and llamas, as well as rabbits, goats, geese, sheep, horses and ponies. Join us for Peterson’s Heritage Day celebration and take a little time to relish our past as we hurry toward the future.

Winter Patio
and
Fountain Prep

Before a Minnesota winter, there a number of simple things you can do to protect the beauty of your outdoor furniture and lawn-and-garden items. Powder-coated aluminum frames are rust-free, but need to be drained of any water. If allowed to freeze inside the furniture, water can damage the tubing. Cast aluminum and iron frames may stay outside, but cushions should be brought indoors. The care of fountains and garden statues is similar. In spring, place the product on a stone or brick platform to prevent it from absorbing excess moisture from the ground. To prepare for winter, a cast stone fountain will need to be drained and covered to protect it from possible freezing damage due to ice. Peterson’s carries lawn furniture and grill covers for items that must stay outdoors.

NUTRI-CARE
Supplements and Grooming

Peterson’s introduces the “Nutri-Care” line of products by Horses Prefer, which features supplements that aid in health and grooming. Horses Prefer researched the global market to find the right combination of ingredients that make equine products natural and safe. From liniments and creams to veterinarian-formulated supplements, “Nutri-Care” products by Horses Prefer are audited routinely to assure quality manufacturing standards. Trust Peterson’s for horse nutrition and grooming products that contribute to optimal performance and good health.

For more than 40 years, Peterson’s has been specializing in the grains and nutrients that keep horses and livestock in healthy condition and performing at peak levels. Peterson’s own Winterized Livestock Feed can be used as a sole grain ration or combined with other grain/protein feeds. It contains a minimum of 12 percent protein. Big Branch and Big Branch Ultra horse feed provide 11 and 14 percent protein. All of Peterson’s custom grinds must meet our high quality standards. Talk to one of our farm specialists for more in-depth information on nutrients critical to your animals’ good health.

Corn Stoves Keep a Lid on Energy Costs with Clean, Efficient Heat

Peterson’s offers not only a way to comfortably and efficiently heat your home but a source of fuel as well. Peterson’s provides both Amaizablaze Corn Stoves and whole kernel corn specifically cleaned for use as fuel. Corn stoves provide safe, clean burning heat for any home, outbuilding or workshop setting. No chimney is required because the stove directly vents through an outside wall. The Amaizablaze direct-vent system brings oxygen into the stove from the outside, which prevents dust and allergens from collecting. Heat an average/mid-sized home with one bushel of corn a day. Three models are available with the Little Indian corn canister sold separately.
Many people are turning to corn as an alternative to wood and other high-priced fuels. Corn is plentiful, renewable and inexpensive, with a very high BTU, which makes it an ideal source of energy. Get the jump on winter by ordering your corn stove now, before the temperatures fall.

Pesky Pest Prevention
Small rodents thinking of moving in this fall? Come into Peterson’s for indoor and outdoor rodent control.

Peterson's Stocks a wide variety of pest control products. Ask our specialists for help.

Fall Seeding and Fertilizing

Post-summer season is an opportune time to revitalize and nourish your pasture as a way of insuring its vitality for the coming year. Peterson’s offers a wide variety of pasture fertilizer and seed. Prior to frost, Peterson’s custom mix of potash, nitrogen and sulfur provide the key nutrients your pasture is lacking this time of year. This will prevent broadleaf grasses from being starved out during the winter months. A dormant seeding of grass after frost is an ideal way of improving pasture quality. The seeds lay on top of the soil until the spring rains trigger new growth. For more information, contact the area soil specialists at Peterson’s Country Mill.

What’s Good For Goats?

Goats, like humans, need a balanced diet to maintain good health. Proper feeding of goats requires more that just turning them out into the grass. Goats have minimum daily requirements. Peterson’s carries a number of brands of goat feed and goat mineral to suit each age and type of goat. Several books in the How-to-Library can provide you with the latest information on the care and feeding of goats. If you are a novice or have an established goat herd, Peterson’s has the feed and supplies you need.
