Peterson’s is Your Ag and Horticulture Headquarters

Here we are at the height of the growing season—it’s the time of year when lawn and garden questions can pop up as quickly as weeds. Since summers in the Upper Midwest are fleeting, it’s important that we make the most of the few days we have to groom our lawns, cultivate our crops and grow our gardens. During these days, it’s helpful to have the friendly folks at Peterson’s nearby to help you find solutions to all of your “growing” concerns.

Practical Pool Chemistry
As the owner of a pool or spa, it is in your best interest to understand how to achieve and maintain proper water chemistry in order to produce clear, clean results. Even if it’s been awhile since your last high school chemistry class, don’t let the idea deter you. With a little help from Peterson’s, you can quickly become proficient at monitoring and maintaining your own water chemistry for happier, healthier pool enjoyment.

Take a sample of your pool or spa water from approximately 12 to 18 inches below the surface—deep enough to avoid any changes affected by sunrays, which may cause a false reading. Be sure to collect the water in a clean, watertight container and avoid temperature extremes. Then bring your pool water sample into Peterson’s Country Mill for a free chemical analysis which, among other things, will test pH, calcium hardness and total alkalinity levels as well as cyaniric acid and metals like copper and iron. Pool water analysis also includes testing for chlorine levels in order to prevent outbreaks of green, black and yellow algae in your swimming pool.
Peterson’s carries a broad assortment of high-quality water treatment chemicals including chlorine and bromine sanitizers along with algaecides for your pool or spa.

on Ponds

Q
Thank you, Peterson’s, for helping me build a beautiful back yard pond. But, as the summer progresses, can you tell me if there is a way to keep my pond clear from algae and scum that is natural and friendly to the environment?
A
We’re glad you asked! Peterson’s carries “Healthy Ponds” time-released pond treatment. “Healthy Ponds” is an all-natural mix of beneficial bacteria and enzymes that is safe for pets, fish, plants and people. “Healthy Ponds” is easy to use.
